For many families, preschool is the first big step away from home. It’s a place where children begin to discover who they are as learners, friends, and problem-solvers. Play and learning are not separate at this age—they are beautifully intertwined—and the environment children experience during these early years matters deeply.

Research shows that children who attend high-quality preschool programs benefit long term, developing stronger language, early literacy, and math skills, as well as the confidence needed for future learning. But just as important are the social and emotional skills children gain—learning to navigate new routines, build friendships, and adapt to new experiences with resilience and joy.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, our approach honors children as naturally curious and capable. Through guided play, teachers thoughtfully support children’s interests, ask meaningful questions, and provide hands-on experiences that encourage exploration and discovery. Learning grows from children’s ideas and unfolds through play, conversation, and creativity.

Outdoor learning is an essential part of each day. Time spent outside allows children to move their bodies, connect with nature, take risks in safe ways, and deepen their learning through real-world experiences. Whether exploring our outdoor space, collaborating with friends, or engaging in imaginative play, children learn best when they are active, curious, and engaged.

At Jan’s Place, we nurture the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—so children feel safe, confident, and excited to learn. Our goal is for every child to leave preschool with a strong sense of self, a love of learning, and the confidence to take their next steps into the world.
